The Vanderbilts’ King Tut Connection
Egypt was part of George and Edith Vanderbilt’s travels, but it was their son-in-law, the Honorable John Francis Amherst Cecil, who had a special connection to famed archaeologist Howard Carter. The Cecil family’s remarkable collection of Egyptian artifacts inspired Carter’s passion for archaeology, which led to his 1922 discovery of King Tut’s tomb.
