Gargoyles, or grotesques, are charming stone guardians once carved into parapets. Originally installed as downspouts on many iconic buildings, including Biltmore House, the gargoyles displayed the characteristics of birds, reptiles, and mammals. This slender fellow with a big roar has lion-like features and the wings of a pterodactyl or dragon, and is sure to dissuade any garden invaders. Never place concrete statuary directly on soil or grass. It is a porous material and will crumble over time.
